The 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line AWD

We had a chance to give the 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line a go recently. What we noticed was it is nothing like the model it replaced. Jump in as we highlight what’s new and what’s improved.

What’s New? Almost Everything.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line Ultimate has undergone a complete makeover. It features the basic styling that made it a favorite, but it has been stretched almost six inches in length. This, in turn, allows for a longer wheelbase, which yields more interior room for its four, or five-in-a-pinch, passengers. Outside, the new modern exterior design brings a sporty twist that will definitely turn heads.

It’s not a delicate appearance, either. The new Kona has a look that brings it more in line with the Ioniq series vehicles. Hyundai designed the internal combustion engine version of the Kona using the futuristic lines of the Kona EV model, instead of the other way around. The refreshed aesthetics adopt a new beefiness that is sorely missing from the previous version.

The old grille is gone. It’s been replaced by active grille shutters to help with aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. And since this is a part of the Hyundai N Line series, it has a sleek red running line that stretches from corner to corner. If you squint, it makes the Kona N Line look like a Bugatti Chiron with a rear spoiler. Nah, on second thought, never mind that. It looks nothing like a Bugatti.

Other highlights for 2024 include a surround view monitor with blind spot coverage. Remote Smart Park Assist is also here, allowing you to park your Kona in tight parking spots after you have exited the vehicle. Dual 12.3-inch gauge and infotainment screens are also included.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, the Kona N Line packs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, but our tester featured HTRAC all-wheel drive for added grip on challenging road conditions. New for 2024 is a Shift-By-Wire 8-Speed Automatic Transmission. Hyundai, using EPA test methods, says to expect fuel economy of 24 city / 29 highway / 26 combined.

Interior Comfort and Technology

Step inside the 2024 Kona N Line Ultimate, and you’ll discover a cabin designed with comfort and technology in mind without losing its sporty appeal. Here are a few highlights:

Advanced Technology

Hyundai is known for its innovative technology, and this Kona N-Line doesn’t disappoint. Its redesign offers a first look at Hyundai’s new Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (CCNC). These include quick control functions for regularly selected controls. Swiping left and right makes accessing frequently-used and viewed screens as easy as flipping through your Instagram feed.

As you would expect, connectivity options include Apple Car Play and Android Auto. There’s also the usual bundle of safety and driver-assistance technologies that ensure a secure and enjoyable driving experience.

Through our week in the N Line, we found the Kona has enough spunk to make things interesting behind the wheel. It’s fast and agile to get you to gym class on time and to your favorite coffee joint before or during work.
